A trucking accident in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, closed down Route 1 for several hours on Monday, June 11.
Reports indicate that the incident took place just before 11am on Monday. The incident actually involved several accidents over a few minutes, culminating with a tractor-trailer colliding with a Langhorne resident’s home. According to Bucks County Dispatch and local ABC10 News, at least two people were transported to St. Mary’s, a local hospital, for their injuries. However, reports later that day indicated everyone involved was likely to be just fine.
The exact chain of events in this series of accidents is as yet unknown — local police are still trying to determine just what happened.
What is known is that scene photos show one small car underneath the rear tires of a semi truck, and another semi driven right up and into a house. Fortunately, no one was home when the truck smashed into the house.
The driver of the truck that hit the house was one Bear Shelby. Shelby said that a car had moved in front of him on the highway, and he collided with the vehicle. Following the impact, Shelby lost control of his semi truck and crossed several lanes of traffic before slamming into the home. When asked about the impact, Shelby said, “I’m just glad there was nobody in the house. When I finally came to rest in the house the only thing I could see was a little kid’s bed.”
The second tractor trailer somehow ended up atop a silver sedan, and also nearly struck a Jeep. The driver of the Jeep said that the near-miss sent him crashing into the guard rail when he tried to avoid the collision.
As of late Monday, traffic crews were still working to remove the semi truck from the home. The residents had not been allowed back inside their home as of the time of this writing.
