Women Filed Lawsuits Over Mesh Erosion

According to an article published by Bloomberg, the plaintiffs whose cases will be resolved via the $400 million settlement, filed their lawsuits against Endo and American Medical Systems over mesh erosion, a phenomenon that can result in internal damage.*

Mesh erosion occurs when the transvaginal mesh implant hardens, and begins to break down while still inside of the body. As the mesh disintegrates, the fragments have been known to injure nearby organs, which can lead to serious health complications and chronic pain.

These mesh erosion cases are being heard in the American Medical Systems multidistrict litigation (MDL) no. 2325 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia in Charleston.
